How to change your birthday on TikTok
You can't change your birthday on TikTok from your profile settings. Instead, you send TikTok a request through Report a problem and verify your age with ID. This guide walks through each step, covers common problems, and explains why accurate account details matter for brand accounts too.
If you entered the wrong birthday when you signed up for TikTok, you've probably noticed there's no option to edit it in your profile. TikTok locks your date of birth after sign-up, so the only way to change your age on TikTok is to ask TikTok's support team to update it for you.
The good news is that the request only takes a few minutes. Here's exactly how to do it.
Why TikTok cares about your birthday
Your date of birth decides which features you can use. Users under 18 have limits on things like going LIVE, sending gifts and direct messages, and accounts that belong to anyone under 13 are removed. That's why TikTok asks for proof before it changes your age, and why you can't simply edit the field yourself.
How to change your birthday on TikTok
- Open TikTok and go to your Profile.
- Tap the menu (three lines) in the top right, then Settings and privacy.
- Scroll down and tap Report a problem.
- Tap Account and profile, then Editing profile.
- Tap Other, then Need more help?
- Explain that your date of birth is wrong and include your correct birthday.
- Attach a clear photo of a government ID that shows your date of birth, such as a passport or driver's license.
- Tap Submit and wait for TikTok to reply in your inbox.

TikTok usually replies within a few days. Once it confirms the change, your age-based settings update automatically. If you're over 18, check that Restricted Mode is turned off in Settings and privacy > Content preferences so you're not still seeing limited content.
If TikTok shows a prompt asking you to confirm or edit your age, for example before you go LIVE, follow that prompt instead. It uses the same verification options.
What if your account was banned for being underage?
If TikTok removed your account because it thinks you're under the minimum age, you can appeal the decision and verify your age with ID or a selfie check. You'll usually have a limited window to appeal, so do it as soon as you see the notice.
Common problems and how to fix them
- You can't find Report a problem: update the app to the latest version, then try again.
- TikTok rejected your ID: make sure the photo is sharp, the date of birth is readable, and the name matches your account details.
- You want to change your age again: TikTok limits how often you can change your birthday, so get it right the first time.
- You're under 18 and want to look older: TikTok only changes your birthday to your real date of birth, and giving a false age can get your account restricted or removed.
How to change your birthday on other platforms
- Instagram and Facebook: go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Birthday, tap Edit, enter your birthday and save. Meta limits how many times you can change it, and it may ask for ID.
- YouTube: your birthday belongs to your Google Account. Go to Google Account > Personal info > Birthday, then update it and save.

Why this matters for brand accounts
For brands, account details are a security issue. If a brand's TikTok account was set up with someone's personal birthday, email or phone number, getting back in after a lockout depends on that one person. When they leave the company, or their details are out of date, the brand can lose access to an account it relies on.
A few habits keep brand accounts safe:
- Set up brand accounts with company-owned emails and phone numbers, not personal ones.
- Keep a record of who created each account and which details it uses.
- Turn on two-step verification and review who has access every few months.
